Mission and objectives
What is ENVIDOM?
Envidom is a non-profit association of legal persons which coordinates and finances the waste collection and recycling system from large and small household appliances. These appliances are better known as "white technics" (for example: fridges, microwaves, washing machines, irons..etc). There you find detailed list of aplliances collected by ENVIDOM there.
ENVIDOM is collective take-back system which cooperate with municipalities, collection places, retailers, importers and logistic companies to manage the collection and recycling of waste.
Why were we established?
Electrical appliances are a part of our life, the waste from them, however, becomes increasingly bigger problem. All EU countries as well as producers of electrical appliances intensively try to prevent accumulation of dangerous electrical waste in households or nature and secure its recycling. Since August 2005 producers of electrical and electronic equipment have become responsible for their products during the entire product life - from the development through production, use by consumer up to decommissioning of the electrical appliance after the end of its life. The producers of large and small household appliances thus established ENVIDOM - Association of Producers of Appliances for Recycling as a non-profit organization in order to secure those obligations.
Such take-back systems exist in almost all EU countries on the base of of Directive 2002/96/EC on waste electrical and electronic equipment (WEEE).
The basic objective of those activities is correct disposal of electrical waste in order to improve and protect the environment.
Our basic tasks are:
- to secure the fulfilment of the obligations of producers and importers of electrical and electronic equipment which result from the applicable legislation
- to create and directly finance collective system of collection, transport and recycling, appreciation and liquidation of electrical waste from large and small household appliances
- to check and coordinate financial and material flows of waste
- to register and report the required data to the state administration bodies
- to inform the consumers on possibilities of electrical waste takeover, collection events, prevention, and principles of correct disposal of electrical waste
- to protect the interests of consumers and system participants
At the fulfilment of those tasks we observe the following principles:
1. non-profitability
2. transparency of financial flows and waste and material flows
3. efficiency – we work in the way as to implement the collection and recycling process of electrical waste at minimum costs and not to financially burden Slovak consumers
4. quality services and technologies of processing and recycling – it cooperates only with authorized collective, transport and recycling companies which are selected upon experience, efficiency and price availability in order to observe environmental principles of environment protection
5. professionalism
6. communication and informing
